Should SharePoint integrate with FileNet and other content sources?
Understand these important requirements before integrating SharePoint with your IBM FileNet system.
Few FileNet customers have a single repository for all of their enterprise content and historical data. While integration point-solutions and services engagements will deliver a fixed point-to-point integration between SharePoint and FileNet – recognize the potential limitations.
- Past (historical) content. Does your organization have older repositories that could benefit from a federated SharePoint integration product? Would a migration product, like SeeUnity’s Intelligent Content migration, be effective in moving older content into a primary FileNet system?
- Present (additional) content. Email, rich media, engineering and schematics, data bases are all potential sources of content that may reside outside of your primary FileNet repository. Understand what is needed, and the benefits of a single, federated SharePoint interface for all of those content sources.
- Future content and systems. Make sure any integration will accommodate minor updates and major point releases to both SharePoint and FileNet. Upgrading can be time-consuming; integration products should not further complicate the process.
